    It’s so unclear what constitutes monk mode - so many variations and overlaps. Really dislike this is attributed to Iman G wrongly, it way predates his videos on it. Dopamine management + habit promotion + intentional focus on specific goals.

    • @eastcoast4233
      @eastcoast4233 16 часов назад

      Just to preempt… other RUclipsrs on mentioning monk mode nearly always reference Iman G, I don’t mean Cal or this video. Iman’s videos on monk mode are actually really basic and fixed in terms of content, just often repeated. I’d encourage anyone considering doing some monk/ghost/god mode to design something personal rather than someone else’s fixed ideas about it. There is so much to draw upon in terms of dopamine ‘detoxing’, routines, deep work, resisting email and phone distractions, sleep hygiene, etc.

    You can apply flexibility by shifting the time blocks around on each given day (in your Google calendar). For example, I have 5 blocks scheduled for work, not just one huge block. That way, I can move them around more easily while still keeping the objective in mind to do all of that work.

  • @bardsamok9221
    @bardsamok9221 2 дня назад

    Messaging for the calgorithm! Time blocking never worked for me because my 'in the zone' productivity mindset is at very unpredictable times! I know when I feel it because almost daily at some variable time I will find a very strong urge to write (which often lasts for hours without wanting to stop because its addictive), and it's been amazingly effective in rejuvenating my _deep work_ mindset. This seems to be in inverse correlation to body energy levels; I guess you could say it's cognitive motivation. Cal, do you believe the academic psychology of Cognitive Motivation is valuable or questionable? A lot of the science is wishy washy, conflated and outdated. But I love the term in the non-academic _lower case c lower case m_ sense. eg: "I feel especially creative now and have a strong desire to write down ideas, pull in related threads, develop, obsessively edit, reflect and perfect: writing / research / compose etc." The science of dopamine neurons is most famously associated with physical neurons and physical 'motiv-ation'. I find it curious that my so called 'cognitive motivation' is at odds with times if physical motivation (which is all but non-existent in my life). Perhaps the brain uses different modes for these different types of motivation. Or perhaps when in physically motivated my brain is too overloaded. I guess a motivation philosophy would do well to understand these different systems as its potential healthy for people like me to understand when direct the flow into either physical exercise or cognitive work, especially given that I feel strongly allergic to fixed routines and work best following my biology/ feeling (problematic i know! A potential recipe for endless excuses!) Perhaps it's me, elsewhere I'm very random, unfocused, unmotivated and have marked signs of ADD but undiagnosed, so it's hard to understand what's going on with the dopamine system. Vast note taking, in one long session is my superpower. I get to obsess on a singular topic and truly deep dive and play with sentence construction. I guess this is why originally, years ago, I found an affinity with cals Deep Work concept. Heavy focus is like an oasis in a life of chaos and scatty unfocused undisciplined behaviour! Except, its not tied to a grid, not even close! To a fault. Will check out your new book, I still have a couple of the others which have been inspirational. Edit: Perhaps an amazing interview would be with a neurologist who is famous for thier deep understanding of dopamine system in relation to motivation. Leveraging the neurology of dopamine re: with cognitive motivation particularly combined with *your* philosophy could be magical and _very_ fruitful for all involved :) Perhaps a neurobiologist who has experience consulting with professionals regarding productivity and motivation, who had an exceptional understanding of the dopamine system. Honestly I think that deep dive episode (hour+) could be massively popular! Wow i was just going to say hi to benefit the _calgorithm_ 😂
